Neurological Physiotherapy

What is it
It’s a specialized field of physiotherapy that focuses on the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with movement and functional problems resulting from nervous system disorders (brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves). Its goal is to improve the patient’s quality of life, maximize their functional independence, re-educate movement, and manage symptoms.
Who is it for
Individuals with neurological injuries and disorders, aiming to restore gait, movement, balance and achieve maximal functional independence, such as:
- Stroke (Cerebrovascular accident-CVA).
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
- Parkinson’s Disease.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) or Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI).
- Other neurodegenerative diseases (ataxias, myasthenias, etc).


What it includes
- Comprehensive Assessment
- History Taking: Recording medical history, symptoms, functional limitations and goals.
- Clinical and Functional Assessment: Specific clinical and functional tests to evaluate key movement elements (muscle strength, muscle tone, sensation, balance, etc).
- Individualized Treatment Plan Design
- Creation of a customized rehabilitation program, adapted to individual needs, capabilities and goals.
- Patient and Family Education
- Counseling for self-management at home and at work.
- Educating patients and caregivers on exercises and strategies for preventing secondary complications (e.g., falls prevention).
- Re-evaluation and Plan Adjustment
- Continuous re-evaluation of progress and adjustment of the treatment plan whenever necessary.
